"Coming in From the Cold" The Delgados

Its already saturday, what happened to thursday and friday!
But I have only been back in London for about two weeks, so maybe its not going as fast as I think. This week has just been crazy with briefs, projects and readings. Am reading an article for Cultural studies called 'Consuming Fashion' by S.Miles and its actually quite interesting.
One line stated by Craik says that 'Fashion statements appear to mark a moment, but the fashioned body is never secure or fixed.' Which is what we are taught in class, that fashion is a constant cycle always moving but this article asks if its the consumer or the industry is moving it.
' Does Fashion shape social life or is it shaped by it?'
My tutor explained that in order to remain a capitalist society that the industry feeds the consumer. It tells us whats new in fashion, whats hot, whats not and then it goes on to tear us down by saying look slimmer in these clothes, lose ten pounds this way, this what the celebrities are wearing shouldn't you be wearing it too.
It also goes on to illustrate that individual fashion is practically impossible in a mass produced market. That we are given the illusion that we have the ability to create our own style with the goods provided to us. But then some people are comfortable in the fact they can put pieces of a fashioned style and be there own within it.
As you can see these ideas are running circles in my head since I have to write a small summary on it but I just thought I would post this and see what you thought. Okay enough of that!

I also wanted to drop off my new playlist which you can find at the right of this screen. I am enamored with this list of songs right now and I hope you find one or two that you like as well. As always the songs will be up for seven days from today.
